Statements ‘racist’, says HP councillor

The Town of High Prairie will be issuing a carefully worded statement on its website against comments made at a September meeting by Town of Slave Lake Councillor Joy McGregor.
Council decided at its Nov. 10 meeting to make a statement, albeit not unanimous, after inappropriate and racist comments were made as viewed by the Indigenous community.

A mask bylaw: council will be ready just in case

Face masks may become mandatory in High Prairie to curb the spread of the coronavirus as the pandemic continues.
At its regular meeting Oct. 13, High Prairie town council approved a motion to draft a bylaw to make masks mandatory when a certain number of cases are reached in the Big Lakes County region.

A survey to help determine future needs and priorities for recreation in the High Prairie region is expected to be released in the third week of August.
The High Prairie and District Recreation Review Committee invites residents to complete the survey that will be posted on the websites of the Town of High Prairie and Big Lakes County.

Town of High Prairie council remains committed to improve broadband services in the community.
Now the town is considering a project of its own.
At its regular meeting July 28, council directed staff to schedule a time for council to meet with service provider Rohl Global Network to discuss options for the town.
