Red Wings eager to return to play

The High Prairie Red Wings are eager to return to junior hockey action – hopefully in mid- to late January – after restrictions in the coronavirus pandemic put the season on ice.
The Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League was scheduled to resume play on Jan. 15, says Derek Prue, expansion director of the division.

Wings tame Icedogs during weekend sweep

High Prairie Red Wings swept the Slave Lake Icedogs in Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League action on the Halloween weekend.
Mikal Chalifoux bagged five goals and Larry Yellowknee added three as the Red Wings tricked the Icedogs 9-4 in High Prairie in an afternoon matinee Oct. 31.

Bean Bag Toss Winter League begins

Another new and inexpensive sport has taken root in the High Prairie area.
The Bean Bag Toss Winter League began in early October. A schedule has been drawn with games in East Prairie, the Eagle’s Nest at Enilda and Joussard, with a fourth site to be determined. All games are on Sundays.

Wings swept in season-opening series

The High Prairie Red Wings lost twice last weekend to the Enoch Northern Alberta Tomahawks to open the 2020-21 Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League season.
The Red Wings lost 10-3 to the Tomahawks on home ice at the Sports Palace on Oct. 16 and 6-3 the next night at Enoch.
